Funky Beats of Life

(c) Ralf Schulze
This was done around the 4th of July.  It is postcard sized (6 in. x 4 in.) watercolor, pencil, ink, and some color pencil on thick watercolor paper.  Gotta do more of these and send to artist friends!  If you want an original Ralf work via postcard, either comment here or on the Facebook post that linked this or msg me on FB.

Collaboration with Bill

(c) William Randazzo and Ralf Schulze
Around Christmas last year, visited my old pal and fellow Fool, William Randazzo and we made some art together at his place.  Always fun stuff!

Post: Every-Other-Day 2015

Happy New year to all and welcome to my new-years-resolution-style-posting-rules:

Okay, On a whim I decided to post something every other day this year in response to my pal, Hal Weaver's vow to post an Image-a-Day!  there is a slight difference and I think I have a disadvantage, but that;s okay.
Hal will post an image a day.
My blog was started and continues to be only My art (old and New).  But now with a slightly new challenge of posting something every other day!  This is really good to get my creative juices going, so I sat down and started and continued some works in progress for a couple of hours.  But I did not finish anything. not to worry.

So I will post some of my Illustrated Christmas Cards of the past to fill this initial void.

My apologies to anyone who is sick of Christmas stuff.... I don't care . . .  I don't have may folks looking at this blog.  It is mostly to get me to make more art and get it out there!

So, here is a rubber stamp I carved of Frosty the Snowman gone Fishing.  I did it on one of those silly "BigMistake" erasers you could buy for $1 in the 1990's.   It's about 4.5" tall and I added some fish on the sides using a rolling stamp I bought!  I sent a bunch of these out to friends, back in 1995 (+/-2 years) as postcards for Christmas!

Another Art Book created from old 78rpm Album: "Rombas'

cover

Here is the other one (so far):  It is the same scenario as the previous post and even the same # of pages!
We really had good fun doing these.  It is great to see these in the bright light of day after being in Dave's C'ville barn for a few years!  The albums are 10.5" tall by 12" wide.  Enjoy!

Art Book created from old 78rpm Album: "My Way" Collaboration with Dave Currier

Cover
For the past 6+ years that I've been back n Richmond VA, I've been occasionally driving to C'ville  to make art with my good friend Dave Currier.  I had these old 78 rpm "Albums" that were very popular in their time (1920s-1940s), and they aren't worth anything on ebay. So I trashed the fragile 78 records and we used the cardboard "album" to start art-books (yes there are more than just this one).  Just look through it and enjoy!  We usually worked on our own stuff while sharing Music and other mood altering stuff.  These were worked on with whatever media we were working with on our own work or if you needed to step away from your own work.  Fun and wide open to changing and manipulating each others work.

I am willing to sell most any of this size/style of my original art for $100 each, unframed and I keep the rights to the image. Contact me any way you like.
I have approx 30 different originals available.
Click here for a nice thumbnail view of most all I've done in this style.
Below is an earlier scan.

Catfish Dreams Deep

(c)2014 Ralf Schulze
I just spent 2 hrs searching through my two old computers for the original paint only scan (I swear, I scanned them religiously) but to no avail.

This is the usual 8.5" x 11" acrylic paint and ink and color pencil on colored, acid-free, card stock colored paper.

I am willing to sell most any of this size/style of my original art for $100 each, unframed and I keep the rights to the image. Contact me any way you like.

Audition of the Wrong Bhuda

(c)2014 Ralf Schulze
Started last summer and it finally gelled a few days ago.  Had to trim this baby because I accidentally got grease spots on the piece.  It's too good to trash because of 2 tiny oil stains... if you really need to know look at the top right and bottom just to the right of my signature.
If you still want to buy the original it will cost you $120 unframed.  And of course I still have complete rights to use the image as I wish.
This is 8" x 10" otherwise same old acrylic paint, ink and color pencil on acid-free card stock paper.

My October/November workspace

My little workspace.
laptop on left and stereo on right.

I found a cool plastic tray with black felt to hold more colored pencils!

Entropy

(c)2012 Ralf Schulze
Here is my first new piece in a few months.  It is still the usual 8.5 x 11 in. colored acid-free cardstock with acrylic paint and ink and colored pencil.
Below is the paint only ; before embellishing with the ink and prismacolors.

The Pink Space

(c)2012 Ralf Schulze
I'm still exploring this format of 8.5 x 11 acid-free colored paper with acrylic paint, ink and colored pencil.

I'm doing more detail with the colored pencil.

I like how this one feels. I worked on it in the vertical format, but others said they liked it better this way.  Hence the angled signature.

this is the paint only, before embellishment!

Dargonia

(c)2012 Ralf Schulze
Newest on very dark gray paper.  I would have said Black, but the Black Prismacolor pencil showed up on it, so it must be dark gray.

I had a ton-o-fun with this one and went a little crazy with the color pencil detail.

Dying in the Breeze

found an old 12 x 12 acrylic on color paper and was inspired to add more.  And trim it to 8.5 x 11.

I really like this because it has black color pencil which fools some people.  Not to mention that it is generally odd to have anything on gray paper.

Coolness!

(c)1984 Ralf Schulze

This is BIG on paper.

Oil, maybe acrylic, sharpie.

I hope you look at  the close-up (just click on the image)

I think this might be one of my best and it is probably around 40" x 60".

For Sale but in a raw state. It is rolled up.

This might be upside down if you see the signature!

Orange Double Drops

Another acrylic on 12 x 12 gray paper.

If you look back on some earlier posts you may see this in process on my art table.  Click on "show process" Label on the right.

Long Landscape

(c)2010 Ralf Schulze
Made this paint sketch in 2009 while hanging with good friend in Charlottesville VA.
It is Acrylic Paint on 10.25" x 20.25" thin Masonite.
It is a landscape completely made up .  No photo, no outdoor view. This photo is a bit blurry.
I tweaked it in 2010. I have it here and it is for sale (make an offer)

Fake Record cover ~ Real Art

(c)2010 Ralf Schulze
Made this collage for a friend (Thomas Ferranti) for his Fake band on Figment called "Smug Fungus". Check it out HERE

Turns out I've done all the cover art for all the Smug Fungus releases!!

Check out Figment.  It a weird Idea: It's got cool album art, wild band names, promo art, liner notes, track titles, etc.   Everything but actual sound!

Here is the whole Smug Fungus catalog! on FIGMENT!

Lost Painting

(c) Ralf Schulze
This is an old scan of an old blurry photograph. I'm guessing it is approx 12 x 18 enamel and acrylic on canvas board. Possibly used sharpie too.

I really like it. Got that usual Landscape/Abstract feel and some fun patterning and I like the white painted lines.

I don't even know what year I painted it, I'm guessing in the 1990's.  I wish I knew where it was. I seriously doubt that I painted over it.
