Mr.Suburbia 3D Model Solidworks

About 4 years ago when we started using Solidworks at my job, I played with it to create a Mr. Suburbia Head.
Took a few lunch hours to get it right.
I featured a video of it in a video back then.

My First ACEO / Art Card / Sketch Card Revisited - kind of...

(c)2010 Ralf Schulze
This is a digitally colored image of my very first Art Card (baseball card sized [2.5" x 3.5"])

Please check out the post of the actual card that I hand colored with watercolor back in 2010, here.

Please check it out! click this now!

I manipulated it back in 2010 and  didn't have any fancy digital image manipulation software then and I still refuse to buy anything like that.  I use Gimp (open source) and  Corel Painter Essentials 4 if I really need to do some semi-high-tech stuff.
I'm old-school and prefer to hand color stuff!
What i do like about the generally recent technology is the ability to scan or photograph so cheaply and have the "process" available to view!

Long Landscape

(c)2010 Ralf Schulze
Made this paint sketch in 2009 while hanging with good friend in Charlottesville VA.
It is Acrylic Paint on 10.25" x 20.25" thin Masonite.
It is a landscape completely made up .  No photo, no outdoor view. This photo is a bit blurry.
I tweaked it in 2010. I have it here and it is for sale (make an offer)

Fake Record cover ~ Real Art

(c)2010 Ralf Schulze
Made this collage for a friend (Thomas Ferranti) for his Fake band on Figment called "Smug Fungus". Check it out HERE

Turns out I've done all the cover art for all the Smug Fungus releases!!

Check out Figment.  It a weird Idea: It's got cool album art, wild band names, promo art, liner notes, track titles, etc.   Everything but actual sound!

Here is the whole Smug Fungus catalog! on FIGMENT!

my Brother's New Family

More than a Year ago my only brother got married. I was the best man, and I had to have a good gift also!  I am living paycheck-to-paycheck, so I decided that I would try to give as much of my talent as possible.

I labored many days on this Family Portrait and actually enjoyed the experience.

This pic is only one of many "in-process" pics I have.
The photo I worked off of is at the bottom right.  I did a sketch study (top left) and my watercolor study (upper middle).

I'll post more in the future!

Abstract Acrylic

(c)2010 Ralf Schulze
Another painting that's been kickin' around since 2006, that I add to occasionally .  It's 9 x 11 mounted canvas on plywood.

Sometimes add a bit here and there.  I like it but I can't tell where it's going.
Any Ideas?

Interesting Art Card process

For those who like the Process of creating art (me included) Here is an Art Card (ACEO=Art Card Editions & Original) original.  Standard 2.5" x 3.5" (the size of a baseball card)

I made this about 4 months ago but lost the ink only scan on my computer (I'm not the most organized guy).  I finally found it today and decided to post the 3 images.
This is a slightly obscene side note on  a theme I've been into since 2007.
I used ink, watercolor and color pencil.

Testing, Testing

This one from about 9 months ago, started out as a test for how the new 6" x 6" pad of smooth bristol board reacts to the media I like to use.

It turned into this and I turned into a CD cover of a mix CD.

Mantis-like Paint-sketch

I did this last year. It is pencil and acrylic paint on dark gray paper.  Original is on 12 in x 12 in but my scanner bed is only 9 in x 12 in.
It is fun and quick and I did it at my good friend Dave Currier's Studio over in Charlottesville VA.

Check out his artistic sculptural services at Currier Studios on my "links I like" list!

"Primary Abstract" New ACEO

Created this one in a slightly different way.
Started out with larger sheet of 246 lbs acid-free paper and trimmed it to the 2.5" x 3.5" when it was done. Ink and Watercolor.

Floating Polyps

This is a very new colored pencil on bristol paper (6 inches x 6 inches)
It is an alien landscape of growing bubbles or polyps near a liquid shore.
I sent the trimmed original to a friend as a mix CD cover! top picture

Yet another semi-abstract ACEO

This one just happened.
When I originally drew it, I knew exactly what colors were needed.

remember: ACEO is "Art Cards Editions & Originals" and the only rule is:
2.5 inches x 3.5 inches (the same size as a baseball card)

Another Abstract ACEO

(c)2010 Ralf Schulze
This started out as a test paper for the watercolor for my older ACEOs (scroll down!) but when I showed the actual Set of ACEOs to my friends, they really liked this one. I added to it since then: additional ink and color pencil but the original watercolor is still there.
(1-2-2012) Gave this to my Mother!
